Lack of Touch ID fingerprint scanner can bring iPhone 5C to end in 2015

NEW YORK: iPhone 5c is lacking in two critical areas: it only has 8GB of space on board for apps, and it doesn’t have a Touch ID fingerprint scanner so it can’t support Apple’s Apple Pay digital wallet. A new report claims that 2015 will be the end of the road for Apple’s colourful handset.

According to an Industrial and Commercial Times report, spotted and translated by Mac Rumours, the iPhone 5C is going to be phased out over the summer. Currently Apple’s most affordable handset, the iPhone 5C was launched in 2013 as a multi-colour plastic counterpart to the iPhone 5S and has slowly grown in popularity, particularly among younger smart phone owners.

All of which means that a new, equally colourful iPhone 6C could well be in the 2015 product pipeline.

As well as the entry-level iPhone, next year is also potentially the last that the iPad Mini will see. Industry whispers suggest that the smaller tablet’s days are numbered now that Apple offers a phablet in the shape of the 5.5-inch display iPhone 6 Plus.
