NEW DELHI: LG Electronics launching the arched G Flex 2 and plenty of curved TVs, its sister company, LG Display, showed off a smartphone with a display that bends downward along both the sides, something similar to the Galaxy Note Edge, except Samsung’s handset only curved on one side.

Samsung Galaxy note 4 Edge was launched last year and was able to garner decent reviews from the techie world. Although the applications are still limited, the trend is seemingly catching up with other major brands. Samsung is good at successfully experimenting with innovative mobile technology, the note line up was one such experiment which took off spectacularly well. The entire smartphone industry followed the trend and now phablets has become a new category altogether.

This year LG is all about the curve. In addition to To better the competition LG Display’s curves on both its left and right edges.

With only a 720p resolution, the 6-inch HD plastic OLED display isn’t the sharpest around. But its curved edges serve as narrow secondary screens that users can swipe and tap through. For example, you can view missed notifications and have quick access to commonly used apps.

Though the design is new and appealing, LG will face the same challenge that Samsung is facing with the Note Edge 4 that is the applications are limited. For the companies it is more of an experiment that both are trying to pull off. They will have to innovate new ways to use the curved display and only then can they strike gold,as the Note line up did.
