CAPE TOWN: The retail price of petrol will rise by 3.6%, or 47c per litre, from June 3, while wholesale diesel will go up by 4.4%, the Department of Energy says. In a statement on Friday, the department said petrol would cost R13.36 in Gauteng, while diesel would be R11.67.

The government adjusts the price of fuel every month, taking into account global prices and shifts in the rand exchange rate. The main reason for the fuel price increase is the high crude oil prices which resulted in higher prices for all the petroleum products in the international markets in May 2015 compared to April 2015, the department said.
