Hyderabad customs seizes smuggled goods worth Rs198m

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Hyderabad, a field formation under Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has reinforced crackdown against smuggling of goods specially Iranian – origin diesel.

As a result of its Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), a total number of 110 seizures cases were made with smuggled items valued at Rs198.750 millions in current financial year 2014-15.

This performance has showed 35per cent increase against seizures made in corresponding period of last financial year 2013-14. Collector MCC-Hyderabad Dr Wasif Ali Memon has issued strict instructions to all the anti-smuggling formations for utilisation of all available resources to curb the menace of smuggling in the interest of government revenue.

Due to better enforcement and resource utilization, the filed units at Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana during two months of current financial year i.e. December 2014 to January 2015, have produced remarkable results in its anti-smuggling operations and have seized 240,500litres of smuggled HSD, whereas 454,240 litres of HSD has been seized during seven months of current financial year 2014-15. As a special assignment, the Hyderabad Collectorate has also dismantled numbers of illegal petrol pumps in all the five Divisions of Sindh Province, seizing dispenser, stock pile of diesel and other paraphernalia which deter mafia involved in smuggling of diesel from indulging in this trade.

The Collectorate has also conducted major seizures in which the anti-smuggling organization (ASO) has confiscated smuggled goods including foreign origin electronic goods, essential oil, perfumery, cosmetics, toilet preparation, ship oil / black oil, Q-Mobile, black tea, black pepper, cloth and etc.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Collectorate will also be conducted special ceremony both at Sukkur and Hyderabad on the eve of World Customs Day on 26th January 2015, where contraband goods and narcotics would be destroyed in presence of various agencies of the Federal and provincial government.

Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem has also lauded the performance of MCC-Hyderabad towards the anti-smuggling actions taken by the Collectorate under the supervision of Collector-MCC Hyderabad Dr Wasif Ali Memon.
