HELSINKI: MediaTek, a global leader in fabless semiconductor design, has doubled in size in Finland in nearly a year to over 100 of the best and brightest minds in the field.
MediaTek opened its Finland office in Oulu in October 2014 with a focus on developing advanced wireless connectivity modems for the next generation of smart devices for Internet of Things (IoT). Ville Salmi, head of MediaTek Finland, in a media release said, “Success in wireless modem development will be the key to differentiating us from other industry players. The team here in Finland has grown rapidly since our opening in late 2014 and we are continuing to bring in world-class talent.”
The expansion comes at a pivotal time when modem development is critical to the entire mobile connectivity space, and global consumers are demanding faster and more stable wireless connectivity on their smart devices to satisfy their growing appetite for rich multimedia content.
The focus of the team at Oulu is to develop high-performance, inclusive modem technologies for both smart phones, tablets and IoT, said the release.
