Meeting on Gwadar Export Processing Zone held

KARACHI: The second meeting of the advisory committee on Gwadar Export Processing Zone was chaired by Rabiya Javeri Agha, Chairperson of Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) to review its progress, a press release said.

During the meeting, the chairperson observed that the authority needed support of stakeholders to develop 1,000 acre land of Gwadar Export Processing Zone for creating employment in the region and increasing exports, keeping in view strategic road networks linking Pakistan with Western China. The participants unanimously endorsed that initially 1,000 acres area allocated for Gwadar EPZ may be developed and its progress may be given in the next meeting scheduled to be held in Gwadar.

Pakistan and China have agreed to establish economic corridor by setting-up different economic zones to give impetus to economic activities for achieving higher growth in years to come. Rabiya Javeri Agha also said that EPZ legal framework had embodied all viable, operational models to provide a tax-free facility to industrial houses and investors.

Gwadar Development Authority Director General Dr. Sajjad also delivered a presentation on the Master Plan of Gwadar. On the occasion, Commissioner Makran also assured that the mutation of land in favour of Gwadar EPZ will be settled.
