Mexico received 21.2 million tourists in the first eight months of the year, further consolidating its position as one of the world’s top 10 global tourist destinations, President Enrique Peña Nieto said.
“Mexico ranked once again as one of the world’s 10 leading tourist destinations,” the president said during the inauguration of a highway linking the cities of San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, which are major tourist spots at the southern tip of the northwestern state of Baja California Sur.
The country received 8.4 percent more visitors between January and August than in the same eight-month period of 2014, Peña Nieto said, adding that the total number of tourist arrivals for the year will top 30 million if that trend continues.
Mexico offers a diverse range of options for tourists, including beach destinations, cultural attractions and adventure travel alternatives, the president said. EFE
