MEXICO CITY: Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico, Le Linh Lan, suggested Mexico would soon open a trade office in Viet Nam, while speaking during a business forum in Mexico City.

During the forum, held as part of a series of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, Lan briefed participating businesses on Viet Nam’s national economic restructuring, its deep and wide integration into regional and global financial organisations, as well as socio-economic achievements, especially during the ongoing renewal process.

Besides additional bilateral agreements, the two countries were pushing ahead with negotiations to establish a joint committee on economic, trade and investment co-operation, and to sign an agreement on fisheries and aquaculture, she said.

She noted that two-way trade experienced a 40-per-cent year-on-year increase to US$2.26 billion last year. Further, trade reached $776 million in the past three months of this year.

Business participants shared experiences in trading with partners residing in each country and information in fields of mutual concerns, as well as exchanging information about markets and taxes, and transport and payment regulations.

The event was co-organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology.

Also, trade experts agreed that the two nations still had room to further increase their economic co-operation to match the positive political relations between the two countries. — VNS
