NEW YORK: Microsoft has apparently been developing a leaner, meaner browser that will launch alongside Internet Explorer in Windows 10.

Microsoft will be staging a Windows 10 event in which it’s widely believed to be showing off a brand new browser.

Given the codename Spartan, users first heard about it in December 2014, where it appeared to be a super-speedy alternative to the ageing Internet Explorer.

Either that, or Microsoft is planning a complete do-over of Internet Explorer and Spartan is the reboot.

Now it appears the browser will be able to support Chrome extensions developed for Google’s browser.

And, like Google’s offering, it’ll be stripped down for speed and will also be available to use on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

This is good news for developers as they’ll be able to code plug-in and extensions for both Chrome and Spartan.

It’s also good news for users who will be given a streamlined program with the option to power it up with extensions if required.
