SYDNEY: As the 2011 release of Mortal Kombat received a Refused Classification in Australia, it is one of those games that Australian’s should be genuinely concerned about not getting to play each time NetherRealm Studios and Earner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announce their plans to do a new instalment in the franchise. I especially dislike this approach given the number of interesting storyline’s and ideas that can be missed because of their content, while other video games might be skipped over by publishers based on their content.

Some good news has been confirmed by WB Games Australia earlier today. Their upcoming multiplatform fighting game Mortal Kombat X has managed to scrape through classification with an R18+ rating. This rating has been given for high impact violence, blood and gore. As with all games that have an online multiplayer element, online interactivity can impact the overall experience.

Mortal Kombat X has been rated in the highest tier for Violence, joining a small number of other recently released video games including the previously-PG rated Atelier Rorona Plus. This is one tier higher than Grand Theft Auto V which was given only “Strong Impact” violence.

WB Games Australia have confirmed that Mortal Kombat X is set for release in the country from April 15th 2015, with support for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
