KARACHI: The departmental representative (DR) of the importer M/s Z A Pharma did not attended the first hearing summoned by the Collectorate of the Customs Adjudication-II in its alleged involvement in tax evasion, it was learnt here Friday.
According to details, the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I had issued show cause notice on September, 5 against M/s Z A Pharma in its alleged involvement in tax evasion by taking undue benefit of SRO 551(I)/2008 and 567(I)/2006. In the notice, the Collector of Customs Adjudication-II Ahmed Mujtaba Memon had summoned the DR of importer Z A Pharma on September, 30 for hearing, although none of the DR of importer was produced before the Collector of Customs Adjudication-II.
It is pertinent to mention here that the R&D Section of MCC-Appraisement (East) has made Contravention Report (CR) against importer Z A Pharma for its alleged involvement in tax evasion of Rs 25,605,608 in terms of customs duty, sales tax, additional sales tax and income tax . The R&D in its Contravention Report stated that the importer was deliberately taking inadmissible advantage of SRO567 (I)/2006 and 551(I)/2008 on import of pharmaceutical raw-material.
It further stated the importer M/s Z A Pharma had attempted to evade Rs595,407 in terms of customs duty; Rs19,309,523 in terms of sales tax; Rs4,082,099 in terms of AST and Rs1618579 in terms of income tax which makes the total of evaded amount to the tune of Rs25,605, 608. The importer Z A Pharma moved the Sindh High Court (SHC) for further proceedings of the case. The case is in the SHC for further trial.
