MULTAN: The Customs Adjudication has decided 35 cases involving Rs 27.548 million in the Model Customs Collectorate Multan in February.
Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Saima Ayyaz decided as many as 28 cases of seizure by Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) and Customs Intelligence and Investigation in January. These cases were related to evasion of customs duty to the tune of Rs 13.153 million.
Almost 21 new cases of seizure involving Rs 61.051 million were included for hearing in the month of February.
Moreover, 33 cases are awaiting final decision for the last three months in the Customs Adjudication.
Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Fayaz Anwar and Amjadur Rehman decided seven different seizure cases involving Rs 14.395 million during the month of February.
In the absence of Additional Collector Fayaz Anwar, who was on leave for a training course, the cases under his adjudication were handover to Additional Collector Amjadur Rehman for further proceedings.
All 35 cases were settled in favour of the Pakistan Customs. Around 12 cases were still pending in the court of the Customs Adjudication additional collector for further hearing. Moreover, six fresh cases have been included for hearing in the court during the month of February.
The Customs Adjudication collector added two new cases involving Rs 38.132 million for hearing in the month of February.
Almost 42 cases involving Rs 133.001 million were pending in the Customs Adjudication by March 12.
The Customs Adjudication has decided 243 cases involving Rs 232.470 million so far during the current fiscal year 2014-15.
The Customs Adjudication collector decided 10 pending cases involving Rs 96.136 million during the fiscal year 2014-15.
Customs Adjudication Collector Saleem Akhtar Ranjha has not decided any case in the first two months of 2015, and cases involving Rs 96.136 million are still pending in his court, mainly due to unnecessary delay from the accused party for their defence.
Collector Saleem Akhtar Ranjha is about to decide four major cases and decision are expected in the month of March. These cases include the ones against SM Foods Makers, Reliance and Ahmad Fine Textile Mills.
The Customs Adjudication additional collector has decided 36 cases involving Rs 72.977 million during the first eight months of the current financial year.
Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Saima Ayyaz decided the highest number of seizure cases (202) involving Rs 109.293 million in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.
