Mumtaz Khoso’s Customs Port Qasim records 18% extra revenue with Rs182.6b collection

KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate Port Qasim showed an excellent performance by generating Rs 182.6 billion as customs duty, collecting 18% extra amount as compared to last Financial Year 2017-18 target.

According to details, MCC Port Qasim under the dynamic supervision of Mumtaz Ali Khoso collected Rs 182.6 billion in FY 2018-19 as compared to Rs155.3 billion collected in the Fiscal Year 2017-18.

The MCC collected Rs 13,578.46 billion in July 2018, Rs 15233.73b in August 2018, Rs 14227.42b in September 2018, Rs 14,368.25b in October 2018, Rs 15,084.28b in November 2018, Rs 16,114.77b in December 2018, Rs 16431.11b in January 2019, Rs 15431.28b in February 2019, Rs 15,949.83b in March 2019, Rs 14313.64b in April 2019, Rs 15852.83b in May 2019 and Rs 16,023.22b in June 2019.

The MCC collected Rs 60.316 billion as income tax in 2018-19 which is 12.8% extra in FY18-19 as compared to FY 2017-18 while the MCC collected Rs 301.68b as sales tax in FY 2018-19, 4% higher than the amount collected in FY 2017-18. Similarly the MCC Port Qasim collected Rs 4.6 billion as Federal Excise Duty (FED) which is 11% higher than the collection of FED in FY2017-18. MCC Port Qasim, has, thus, contributed significant share in total revenue collection by the south region as well as FBR during the period.

Sources at MCC Port Qasim claimed that officials of entire collectorate worked day and night under the leadership of Collector Mumtaz Ali Khoso to achieve the assigned target and extra efforts were made to recover outstanding revenue through auction of unclaimed goods, timely encashment of matured securities, liquation of litigation/court cases and settlement of disputes between the traders and the collectorate.

After taking charge of the MCC Port Qasim, Mumtaz Ali Khoso instructed customs officers and officials to increase revenue collection through prompt clearance of import consignments. He has a proven track record of high achievements by performing duties at multiple departments in Customs. For instance, he performed duties as Director (OPS), Directorate of IOCO, Karachi, Additional Director (Valuation) Directorate General Customs Valuation, Karachi and Additional Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Karachi.

At Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Karachi, he spearheaded several anti-smuggling operations and generated much-needed revenue for the exchequer. He always adopted zero tolerance policy against activities of smuggling in the port city.
