LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will address the closing session of the first Pakistan Textile Summit, while the businessmen related to the textile industry have casted doubt on the PM’s presence in the summit, jointly organised by the textile ministry, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) and Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA), on November 27.

The summit will have detailed discussions on the challenges being faced by the textile sector and at the end of the summit, a joint declaration will also be issued amid recommendations and way forward in this regard.

The textile industrialists said that the textile sector was the most important part of the country’s economy and if this sector was given due facilities, the country’s export could be increased. They said that the premier had been taking action to provide the textile industry uninterrupted power and gas supply. But they doubted that these facilities would be withdrawn, if the government got through the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s November 30 protest.

The Pakistan Textile Summit is bridging the gap between the industry and the policy makers to carve out a workable textile policy for next five years to counter the billions dollars textile policy of the Indian government, they added.
