KARACHI: General Secretary of the Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) Faisal Mushtaq has demanded of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Customs to authorize National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) branch for collection of customs duty in Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA).

He expressed these views while talking to Customs Today in a luncheon meeting, organized by the KCAA at its group office in honour of journalists.

Speaking at the occasion, Mushtaq wondered that not even a single branch of NBP existed in EPZA for collecting customs duty and taxpayers in the Processing Zone have to go to Port Qasim or airport to deposit the customs duty, which creates immense problems in prevailing law and order situation.

KCAA General Secretary further demanded of the authorities concerned of Pakistan Customs to ensure implementation on its decision soon in which it acknowledged that the NBP branches located near PNSC Building, Stock Exchange Building, Karachi Chamber and Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Awami Markaz, SITE and Korangi will be able to collect customs duty from the taxpayers.

It is pertinent to mention here that General Secretary KCAA Faisal Mushtaq has written a letter to the Chief Collector-Appraisement (South) Nasir Masroor in October, in which he requested that Pakistan Customs should authorize at least four more branches of NBP located near PNSC Building, Stock Exchange, KCCI and Awami Markaz to collect customs duty from the taxpayers and the Chief Collector-Appraisement (South) has also agreed upon the suggestion given by KCAA GS. However, nothing has been done in this regard.
