KATHMANDU: Nepal police arrested media industrialist Himal Rai, pulisher of Action Times Weekly and owner of Heart FM, on the charge of drug smuggling.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjaya Singh Thapa said that the security personnel arrested Rai who had been on the run after the Sunsari District Court slapped him two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 100,000 convicting him on the charge of drug smuggling on January 3, 2006.
According to police, Rai had been repeatedly asked to appear before the court, but to no avail. Rai was arrested after the court started a campaign to implement its verdicts in coordination with the police.
A woman, who claimed to be Rai’s daughter, however said that the authorities are trying to frame him on false charges.
