KATHMANDU: One Nepali coffee brand has been rated as ‘high quality’ by Coffee Review, a platform that reviews the quality of coffee from across the world every year.

In its review for 2018, Coffee Review has given Nepal’s ‘Lekali Coffee’ 90 points out of 100 and termed it ‘one of the best coffee from around the world’.

The ‘Lekali Coffee’ is produced at Lekali Coffee Estate in Nuwakot.

Coffee Review has defined Lekali Coffee as delicate, crisply sweet-savoury, roast-rounded and savoury sweet in structure with gentle acidity. “The finish of the coffee is rich with notes of dark chocolate and almond in the short, with savoury-sweet hints of tamari and sandalwood incense in the long,” as per a statement issued in Coffee Review’s site (coffeereview.com).

Lekali Coffee is the first Nepali coffee to be rated by Coffee Review.

Organising a press conference in the Capital today, Nepal Tea and Coffee Development Board (NTCDB) said such ratings of Nepali coffee across the world will help domestic coffee industry to grow and increase the demand for Nepali coffee in the international market.

However, NTCDB officials pointed out the need to further enhance the quality of coffee produced in Nepal to sustain such achievements.

“This recognition of Nepali coffee will also help to promote other domestic coffee brands in the global market,” said Gaurab Luitel, planning officer at NTCDB.
