New software companies investing $29M in Cobleskill

OSLO: A new software company and a Norwegian-American engineering firm are projected to invest $29 million in Cobleskill, New York over the next 10 years.

The two technology companies have been approved to operate tax free in Cobleskill for 10 years under Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Start-Up NY program. The companies say they will create 154 new jobs, according to a statement.

Sakat Consulting is a new business that will create 102 new jobs in research development and telemarketing. Sakat develops customer service software for a more efficient work-flow, management and customer analytics for other businesses. The company said it will invest $10 million in Cobleskill.

Eco Convergence Group is the American arm of ECG Iveron AS, a Norwegian-American engineering company. The company makes a geopolymer concrete and indoor hydroponic food production systems, according to its website. It will hire 52 new workers and invest $19 million in Cobleskill.

The businesses will set up shop in the Guilford Mills space, a factory that made swimwear, lace and lingerie until it closed in 2001. Start-Up NY allows businesses to operate tax free for a decade by expanding or relocating to college and university campuses. The property was designated as off-campus space for SUNY Cobleskill as part of the program.

Cobleskill resides in Schoharie County, which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state at 7.8 percent, according to the most recent state labor statistics.

Case Window and Door, located in Green Island, New York, was also approved for the Start-up NY tax credits Monday.
