NEW YORK: The elite group of Nexus and GPE Android smartphones that have the privilege of getting new updates before anyone else is expected to get the next major Android version as early as next month. Starting with the Nexus line-up, Google will start pushing Android 5.1 in March.

In support of this, Android Geeks claim the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will be pushed to a series of Nexus devices, starting with Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, in March.

Other Nexus smartphones including Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 2012, Nexus 7 2013 and Nexus 10 will follow.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update has already been spotted on some Android One devices in Indonesia and Philippines, but little is known about the global availability of the update.

If the Android 5.1 rollout news is accurate, users are looking at massive fixing of glitches than introduction of new features.

The company tried fixing the errors encountered in Android 5.0 Lollipop update in 5.0.1, 5.0.2 and 5.0.3 in the past. But the latest OS version is not entirely free of bugs. In order to address all pressing concerns, the Android 5.1 build will be rolled out to eligible devices.

Android 5.1 Lollipop is expected to come with new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles that will allow users to access list of available devices with one tap. Android Police recently discovered new clock animations that are likely to be a part of Android 5.1 update along with new screen pinning feature.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop is expected to fix all known issues of the previous OS versions. The next software is expected to bring the missing Silent mode back alongside overall performance improvement and RAM management.

The issue of apps crashing will also be addressed in the new build, according to GottaBeMobile. Other expected bug fixes are:

Improved battery management

Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed

Issues with wireless connections fixed

Problems with OK Google function solved

Notifications problems solved

Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
