NIGERIA: The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Island Port Command, Lagos has generated N189.8billion between January and September this year.
The Spokesman of the command, Chris Osunkwo who disclosed this to Daily Sun said in January, N20.96billion was collected as against N16.34billion and N21.billion collected in January 2013 and 2014 respectively.
In February, the figure rose to N19.2billion higher than N16.3billion and N21.7billion which it garnered for the same month in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
In March 2015, N21.5billion was collected by the NCS, which is a lot higher than the corresponding month in 2013 and 2014, where N17.6billion and N16.7billion respectively was realized.
By April, the total collection was one billion naira less than what was collected in March as the Service raked in N20.3billion which was six billion naira higher than what was collected in the same month in 2014 but about one billion more than what was collected in April of 2013.
The least amount so far, was collected in May 2015, when only N18.2billion came into the coffers of the government, when compared with N19.9billion and N26.5billion of 2013 and 2014 respectively.
In June, Nigeria Customs Service at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos raised the bar in revenue collection to N23.4billion much less than the N26.13billion that was collected in the same month in 2014, but more than the N17.63billion which was collected in June 2013.
Collections in July and August 2015, stabilized at N22.05billion and N22.8billion, as against the N23.4billion and N21.16billion of 2014 and N20.4billion and N23.9billion of 2013. In September 2015, N21.5billion was realized as against N23.4billion and N24.5billion of 2013 and 2014 respectively.
Osunkwo said he was hopeful that by the end of 2015, the command could replicate the feat it achieved in 2013 and 2014, when N240.2 billion and N284.3 billion respectively, was paid into the coffers of the Federal Government, barring unforeseen circumstances.
