Pakistan’s imports up by 12.01pc to $12.5b in July-Sept

ISLAMABAD: The country’s total import bill increased by 12.01 per cent and reached $12.519 billion during the first quarter of fiscal year 2014 from $11.177 billion import of corresponding period of last year.

According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data, the import of oil and eatables has decreased by 4.78pc to $4.79 billion in July-September 2014 as compared to $5.03 billion import bill of the same period of previous financial year.

The import of food products also increased by of 27pc and reached $1.430 billion during the period under review in 2014 as against last year’s $1.042 billion. The wheat import witnessed an increase of 82.63pc, pulses 25pc and palm oil 4.39pc during the period under review, while sugar import observed a negative growth.

The PBS data showed that oil import reached $3.756 billion in July-September 2014 as compared to last year’s $3.984 billion with a decline of 5.71pc, while crude oil import was down by 14.22pc and import of petroleum products decreased by 0.42pc during the corresponding period.
