Panasonic introduces its new smartphone, Eluga Icon at Rs. 10,999

TOKYO: Panasonic has launched its new Eluga smartphone, the Eluga Icon at Rs. 10,999. The new smartphone will be available exclusively to buy starting Monday in Gold and Slate colours via Amazon India.

The Panasonic Eluga Icon packs a large 3500mAh battery, which is a highlight of the smartphone. Another notable feature is that it supports 4G LTE connectivity with India specific LTE bands support. At this price point, the Eluga Icon is likely to compete against Lenovo K3 Note priced at Rs. 9,999; Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G, priced at Rs. 7,999, and Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen), priced at Rs. 11,999 (1GB RAM).

The company touts that the Eluga Icon includes some UI features such as iSense, which is hand hover gesture based functionality; Smart Awake, which wakes up the screen on double tap; and Blink Play, which clicks selfies with a blink of an eye. It also features MediaTek’s HotKnot file transfer technology, which is similar to near field communications (NFC) in terms of application. The dual-SIM based Panasonic Eluga Icon runs Android 4.4 KitKat-based Icon UI. It comes with a 5.5-inch (720×1280 pixels) OGS (one glass solution) display.

Panasonic Eluga Icon is powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core (unspecified chipset) processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). It sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a secondary an 8-megapixel front-facing camera also on board. Apart from 4G, other connectivity options on the Eluga Icon include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, GPS/A-GPS, OTG support, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth. The handset features ambient light sensor, accelerometer, e-compass, and proximity sensors.

Commenting on the launch of the Panasonic Eluga Icon, Manish Sharma, Managing Director, and Panasonic India said “Panasonic India has exclusively tied up with Amazon in order to cater to the changing needs of the Indian consumers.
