HARRISBURG: A federal appeals court panel in Philadelphia has upheld the conviction and sentence of a California man accused of being a former smuggler and enforcer for Mexico’s once-feared Arellano Felix drug cartel.
The panel rejected Miguel Angel Lavenant’s challenges to his conviction and sentence in federal court in Delaware.
Lavenant was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison last year after being convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and three counts of money laundering. He faced up to life in prison.
According to court records, Lavenant once appeared in a television documentary about Tijuana drug lords, in which he admitted participating in at least three murders.
