MANILA: The Philippines, one of the world’s biggest rice importers, will buy an additional 300,000 to 400,000 tonnes of rice to further boost its buffer stock next year, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said on Thursday.
Coloma said the National Food Authority (NFA) Council and the Cabinet Task Force on El Nino have agreed on the volume for shipment in the second quarter of 2016.
The volume is on top of the 500,000 tonnes that NFA, the state grains procurement agency, has already bought from Vietnam and Thailand for shipment in the first quarter.
