WARSAW: Rail freight carrier PKP Cargo will forge added rail transit links to central China in a deal with China’s Zhengzhou International Hub, PKP Cargo said in a press statement.
Sides will create a JV tasked with expanding PKP Cargo’s dry port in Malaszewicze on the Polish-Belarussian border to increase transloading, packaging and storage capacity and turn it into the main rail hub between China and Europe.
Plans could boost the number of trains from China to Europe co-serviced by PKP Cargo to 300 a year, the statement reads. Chinese cargo transport is currently dominated by ships, with only 3.5% of Chinese exports to the EU carried by land despite lower costs and shorter duration, PKP Cargo said.
