WARSAW: Poland’s Environment Ministry has announced ten areas where it plans to grant licenses for hydrocarbons exploration and extraction in 2016 under new mining law.
On seven areas Poland will be granting concessions for conventional resources, on the remaining three areas concessions will be allocated respectively for shale gas, tight gas and methane from coal deposits. The new mining law, which entered into force in January 2015, assumes the Environment Ministry has until June 30 to announce areas identified for tenders for the following year.
Under new regulations, the ministry will shoulder a part of works that previously had to be done by investors – it will obtain necessary environmental conditions and will set the minimum scope of works required on a given concession. Licenses will be granted based on results of tender procedure which will take into account applicants’ E&E experience.Tenders will be launched in early 2016.
