WARSAW: Poland’s April consumer prices were down 1.1% year on year after a 1.5% y/y decline in March and versus consensus expectations for 1.2% y/y decline, Central Statistics Office GUS said in a statement.
Month on month, April consumer prices were up by 0.4%, a notch higher than expectations for 0.3% month on month increase.
Poland’s annual deflation will likely narrow down clearly in May to 0.7% y/y, the Ministry of Economy analysts said in a comment to April reading. “The annual CPI in May should reach -0.7%,” the comment showed. In monthly terms, Poland will likely record a 0.2% price increase in May as foods and transport prices are expected to edge up, the statement also read.
