Porsche’s Black Edition versions of its 911 Carrera and Boxster getting popularity among fans

BERLING: Porsche introduces Black Edition versions of its 911 Carrera and Boxster. As you can imagine, the Black Edition is first and foremost an aesthetic package, but also comes with more standard features than a normal Boxster or Carrera. Among the added equipment is a Sport Design steering wheel, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror and Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with navigation.

The 911 Carrera Black Edition is based on the base Carrera in coupe or convertible body style and rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive setups. The 911 is powered by a 3.4 liter flat six engine with 345 horsepower. Included in the special edition are 20-inch alloy wheels from the 911 Turbo, standard LED headlights, the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+), heated sports seats, Bose Surround Sound System, and Park Assist with backup camera.

As for the Boxster Black Edition, the package is also based on the entry level model and its 2.7 liter flat six engine with 261 horsepower on tap. Additional equipment includes bi-xenon headlights featuring PDLS, 20-inch Carrera Classic alloys, and several interior cabin add-ons such as dual-zone climate control, heated seats, and Sound Package Plus.

If you’re anxious to place your order, there’s good news (for European buyers) the Carrera and Boxster Black Editions are already on sale. Prices for the Boxster version start at €59,477. The Carrera starts at €95,058 and goes up to €111,956 for the Carrera 4 Carbiolet.

Now that the Black Edition has been introduced, one can only wonder what other color-themed additions would sell well with Porsche buyers. I certainly hope a “gold edition” never finds its way to production, because the custom gold paint and wheels I spotted on a 911 Targa were enough to insult the senses for a lifetime.
