ABU DHABI: An Indian port worker is accused of passing on confidential information about military vessels to offials from his home country.
M E B appeared at the Federal Supreme Court on Monday on charges that he handed over information to the Embassy of India about when naval ships were arriving and departing from Zayed Port. The accused, 42, who worked as an administrator at the port, used the electronic system to find the confidential government information without a permit, prosecutors said.
The worker claimed he agreed to help embassy officials because they promised they would help him with a legal case back home. He had been asked numerous times for information by the officials, but kept refusing their request.Eventually, however, he relented and sent a text message with details about an American, he said. The case was adjourned until October 12.
