Post Clearance Audit recovers around Rs 600 million during third quarter

KARACHI: Pakistan Customs Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) has collected almost Rs 600 million by establishing audit observations in detecting the violation of SROs 575, 659 and 1125 in the imported consignments during third quarter of current fiscal year 2014-15.

Sources informed Customs Today that the PCA has recovered the government revenue by scrutinizing the previous years’ import data of the cleared consignments in terms of SROs 575, 659 and 1125.

“The Directorate has recovered revenue of around 600million in last three months and the process is continued in order to detect more tax evasion cases”, sources added.

Sources further said that the PCA in first phase issued audit observations into the tax evasion cases to the importers and recovered revenue by issuing demand notices to the defaulters.

“During the audit observations, the authorities concerned determined and studied the different aspects including classification of PCT, valuation ruling and import value of the consignments and then issued revenue recovery demand notices if needed”, sources disclosed.

To a query, sources further informed that the Directorate PCA has recently issued seven to eight audit observations against the defaulters in order to submit evaded duty/taxes.

When contacted, the Director Post Clearance Audit (PCA) Gul Rehman confirmed that the PCA has recovered revenue of around Rs 600million in the last three months and more revenue recovery is likely to be expected as the authorities concerned including the officers and officials are working tirelessly in order to recover government exchequer from the defaulters.

“The tax detection exercise would be continued on regular basis, as the directorate has decided to recover the evaded government revenue”, Director PCA added.
