Production cost up by Rs814.194 million: K-Electric to increase tariff by Rs0.81/unit, company sells 1,011m units

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), at a public hearing held under the chairmanship of its Vice Chairman Habibullah Khilji, has allowed K-Electric to increase of the power tariff by Rs0.81 per unit over higher fuel cost in January 2015 and reduction in gas supply to the company for power generation.

As per the new tariffs, the electricity consumers using up to 50 units per month would be exempted from the tariff revision.

According to K-Electric Director Finance Muhammad Amir, the cost of power production has increased by Rs814.194 million on the back of fuel variation in January.

The company sold 1,011 million units of electricity during the month. The cost of power production from K-Electric’s own resources recorded a decline of Rs249.444 million whereas fuel cost variation from external resources stood at Rs1,063.639 million.

The Nepra vice chairman said that K-Electric produced 487 million units in December from its resources, which dropped to 433 million units in January.

In January, K-Electric received electricity from the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) at Rs9.57 per unit, higher by Rs2.99 compared to the price for December 2014.
