NEW YORK: The Play Station4 sales hit a record high of 10 million units sold worldwide as opposed to Xbox One’s 5 million sold units in August.

In the latter part of October; Sony announced that sales of the PS4 have reached 13.5 million units on a global scale.

Microsoft started selling the Xbox One without Kinect in June and had set the retail price of $399. The new price, which is $100 cheaper than the Kinect-bundled version, had somehow worked for the company as sales for that month were reportedly ‘more than double’ of the sales it had achieved in May.

“Almost one year ago, I had the honour of shaking hands with hundreds of fans at our Xbox One launch in New York City. We have listened to your feedback and have worked hard to deliver hundreds of improvements to Xbox One, celebrated the launch of amazing new games, and sought ways to offer more value for you,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Devices and Studios on the company’s official blog.

Just recently, Microsoft announced that it is making the Xbox One cheaper by as much as $50 beginning on Nov. 2 until Jan. 3. The new pricing scheme also includes consoles that are bundled with games. One example is the game title ‘Assassin’s Creed: Unity Xbox One’ which comes bundled with Kinect. The price for the bundle is set at $450 while a non-Kinect version is priced at $350.

In September, the Xbox One was retailed at £329.99 in the U.K. which is £20 cheaper than the Kinect-free bundle that was launched in the summer. During its first months in the market, the Xbox One saw itself trailing behind Sony’s PS4 in terms of sales. In July, the PS4 was deemed as the number one console for the seven straight months in a row.
