NEW DELHI: Fighting the menace of red sanders smuggling in the Seshachalam forest appears to be an unending tryst for the Chittoor Police, which have a daunting task of nabbing nearly 3,000 people accused of dealing with the contraband wood.
After intensification of combing operations in the Seshachalam forest, highway patrolling in the key routes connecting Bengaluru and Chennai and deployment of special teams for inter-State operations since June 2014, the Chittoor Task Force has registered 390 smuggling cases involving 5,000 accused so far, of which 2,229 have been arrested during many operations till May this year.
