Renault conducts voluntary check on 646 vehicles over potential airbag issue

Renault’s JV partner, Nissan too had recalled about 9,000 units of its compact car Micra and mid-sized sedan Sunny in India as part of a global recall for the same reason. Just so users know, Pulse and Scala are re-badged versions of Nissan’s Micra and Sunny, respectively.

Renault will most probably replace the driver airbag inflator at no cost to the customers for labour and parts. Though there have been no reports of any related incidents in India, the French car-maker is carrying out the part replacement to avoid any mishaps in the future.

Ever since SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), the apex auto body representing all vehicle manufacturers in India, instated voluntary recalls, several car-makers have recalled vehicles including Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, General Motors, Honda, Ford, Nissan and Mahindra & Mahindra.

Renault India’s spokesperson told NDTV, “Renault is conducting a voluntary check on certain potentially affected Renault Vehicles (620 Pulse / 26 Scala – produced from September 2011 to July 2012) which may have a possibility of driver air bag problem that was reported to Renault by airbag supplier, Takata. No incidents associated with this issue have been reported in Renault vehicles so far.”
