2015 Toyota Sienna tuned into SpongeBob 3-D concept carAMSTERDAM: Renault-Nissan Alliance, that seizes 58 percent of the global EV market, has sold its 200,000th electric vehicle (EV).

Renault and Nissan EVs have driven approximately 4 billion miles without producing tailpipe emissions – a distance the release said was enough to circle the earth 100,000 times. The EVs reportedly represent 200 million litres of fuel saved, which would fill about 80 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Furthermore, Renault-Nissan Alliance said its EVs account for 450 million kilograms of CO2 emissions spared.

The milestone reportedly comes roughly four years after the introduction of the Nissan LEAF, which the release said remains the best-selling EV in history.

From January to the first week of November, the Alliance said it sold about 66,500 EVs – a figure the press release noted was a 20% increase from the same period last year.
