TOKYO: Sony Entertainment Online has launched Resident Evil HD Remaster on PlayStation 4.
With Resident Evil HD Remaster, gamers will get to inspect the old Victorian furniture thrown around the place. With the new level of graphical detail, gamers could see clearly the large volume of shelves, cabinets, and paintings that decorated the mansion. Hanging chandeliers cast dark shadows on the walls, making them pause to be certain that it was just a shadow of a random candlestick, and not that of a zombie.
While finding a save room would give gamers a second to catch their breath, the drab interior of the room constantly reminds them that yes, they are safe for now, but sooner or later, gamers will have to go back out there to face the horrors that await them in the mansion. Even the save room music, not quite as soothing as Code: Veronica’s ‘A Moment of Relief’, does well in creating an eerie atmosphere as they hastily save their game with the typewriter stashed in the corner. Speaking of saving, gamers might want to make a habit of doing that as often as they can. Resident Evil HD Remaster does not offer a checkpoint system, which means that dying in-game will require you to start from their last save, causing them to potentially lose hours of gameplay.
In addition to that, the game forces gamers to carefully consider each move they make whenever they encounter an enemy. Do gamers spend eight bullets to take him down, or do they take a chance and try to dodge and weave your way past the zombie? Resource management is crucial; encountering a zombie could mean the loss of precious ammo or a mixed herb.
To exacerbate matters, gamer start out with a measly six inventory slots. The Spencer mansion is one giant ornate puzzle by itself that requires them to pick up seemingly random items like broken shotguns and death masks. They then have to figure out where to place them so that they can unlock new areas on their map. This definitely contributes to the game’s difficulty as gamers could encounter a puzzle room and realize that they have left a key item back in their inventory box in the save room. The nearest save room could be two or three hallways away, and making runs back and forth between the save rooms and your next destination will always place them under the risk of losing even more of their depleting resources.
