WASHINGTON: Furniture exports increased by 9.7% in the first six months of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching over EUR 1.1 billion, according to the Romanian Furniture Manufacturers’ Association (APMR). They accounted for almost 4% of Romania’s total exports, reports local Ziarul Financiar. In the first six months of this year, the furniture exports represented 56.4% of the total timber products exported, compared to raw timber exports, which had a share of 13.3%.

By comparison, the exports of raw timber amounted to 16.5% in 2015. This “represents a good thing for Romania”, as more products with a value added are exported, said Aurica Sereny, APMR president. Furniture production is one of the few sectors that have a positive export-import balance.
