NEW YORK: Russian Alrosa Udachnaya mine have hauled a rock out of the ground which contain 30,000 small diamond. The rock contains of diamonds,which is greater more then million of normal dimond ore has been donated to science. “The exciting thing for me is there are 30,000 itty-bitty, perfect octahedrons, and not one big diamond,” said Larry Taylor, a geologist at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, who presented the findings. “It’s like they formed instantaneously.”
The scientists discovered that the diamonds lodged in it to be about 1mm with eight sides. This concentration in this rare rock is million times greater than a typical diamond according to the research. This rocks unusual formation will deliver data on Earth`s geological history. Taylor said “The associations of minerals will tell us something about the genesis of this rock, which is a strange one indeed”.
Researchers believe that created in the layer between the crust and the core called mantle beneath the Earth`s surface. Though most mantle rocks disintegrate during volcanic eruption, it also carry most of diamond-rich mantle in to the Earth`s surface. Exotic materials are trapped inside the diamonds tiny capsules called inclusions. The researchers beam electrons to the trapped chemicals, which contain carbonate, a common mineral in limestone and garnet.
Taylor suggested on Monday that “the findings suggest the diamonds crystallized from fluids that escaped from sub ducted oceanic crust, likely composed of a dense rock called peridotite”.
Another researchers Sami Mikhail from the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C. who is not part of the study said “The unusual chemistry would represent a rare case among diamonds”. He also said “[The source] could be just a really, really old formation that’s been down in the mantle for a long time”.
