SEOUL: Samsung Electronics has established a product innovation team which will focus entirely on hi-tech projects which will include, but will not be limited to, 3D printing, drones, robots, robotic telepresence, virtual reality and even unmanned vehicles.

Shin Jong-kyun, the Samsung mobile chief, is going to lead the team inside the mobile division. This team will operate independently. According to a company official the team members will have more independence and authority because their aim isn’t to develop single devices for imminent results, rather they’re concerned with developing solutions that go with the company’s manufacturing capabilities.

The company also assigned strategists, product managers and technicians to the innovation team.

An official cited in the report says that Samsung has previously been successful because it released products that were competitive in pricing. Since that is an old business formula now the company needs to constantly explore new ways to “meet the needs of people through innovation and updated technologies.”
