Samsung to supply processor for iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, report

KOREA: A report said that Samsung will be manufacturing around 75 percent of processors for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7.

A South Korean newspaper has said that Samsung Electronics will be the lead supplier of processors for the iPhone 7.

Maeil Business Newspaper cited sources in the semiconductor market, claiming that Samsung will be providing around 75 percent of the chips for the next iPhone.

Financial details were not available, but the chips will reportedly be manufactured in Austin, Texas.

The newspaper said: “According to sources in the semiconductor industry on Sunday, Samsung Electronics will supply A9 for Apple’s next handset model iPhone 7. The A8, IPhone 6 AP, has been solely supplied by Taiwan’s TSMC, leaving no room for Samsung Electronics to be the AP supplier.

“However, this time, 75 percent of A9 will likely come from Samsung Electronics, market watchers expect.”

The news comes alongside rumours that Apple will be releasing two iPhones this year, the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 7.

The Mail Online said: “The new schedule is expected to stagger the releases of two devices in 2015 to capitalise on sales.

“Apple could release the iPhone 6S to people who want to upgrade to a slightly cheaper model, before announcing its flagship iPhone 7 in the autumn.”
