Jillani wants Trade Development Authority of Pakistan to announce special package to upgrade and modernise export-oriented industry of Sialkot

SIALKOT: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Fazal Jillani on Monday pressed the government to order the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to ensure the early clearance of all the ad hoc relief claims of Sialkot exporters.

Talking to Customs Today, he said they had already sent the claims to the TDAP for getting one percent additional ad hoc relief announced by the government in Trade Policy 2009-10 on all the exports of sports goods, surgical instruments and footwear (during a stipulate period from July 1 2009 to June 30 2010).

Jillani urged the TDAP to help the Sialkot exporters promote the non-traditional exports globally. He also urged the exporters to focus on non-traditional exports, saying that they could have a great potential, besides, paving the way for Sialkot exporters to explore and capture new trade markets.

He also urged the government to evolve an effective mechanism for the “proper use” of the Export Development Fund (EDF), which was meant for the promotion and development of the country’s export sector.

He urged the TDAP to announce a special package for upgrading and modernising the export-oriented industry of Sialkot.

He said that the business community wanted the government to take measures for the continuity of effective economical, industrial and trade policies.

He urged the government to early release funds stuck in the form of Export Development Fund (EDF).

He said that the rebate duty drawback, sales tax, income tax refunds claims were not being paid to Sialkot exporters by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)  for the last ten months due to which Sialkot based industrialists and exporters have been suffering from great financial crunch.

A big capital and exchequer of Sialkot has already stuck up and the inordinate delay in the payment of the said refund claims was badly affecting export, trade, industrial and business activities in Sialkot.

The SCCI president urged to resolve the issues being faced by the export-oriented cottage industry of Sialkot.
