SHARJAH: Sharjah Court has sentenced a Pakistani smuggler to 11 years in jail and fine of Dh50,000 for smuggling drugs into country and consuming hashish.
Presiding judge of the criminal court of first instance at Dibba Al Hisn, part of the Sharjah emirate, found him guilty and ordered that he be deported after serving his jail term.
The case dates back, when Sharjah Police received information that a suspect was in possession of a quantity of narcotic pills, and that he was intending to smuggle it to the country through the Dibba Al Hisn border check point with Oman.
The police procured an arrest warrant from the public prosecution and laid a trap to catch the suspect. When he tried to cross the border he was stopped and the narcotic pills in his possession were confiscated. A urine test also showed that he had consumed hashish. He was referred to the public prosecution which charged him with smuggling and consuming drugs. He was then sent to the Dibba Al Hisn criminal court of first instance which found him guilty of the charges leveled against him.
