Sindh to revise rate of Infrastructure Cess to collect additional Rs 2.5 billion

KARACHI: With an aim to collect additional Rs 2.5 billion for the maintenance and development of infrastructure in the province, the Sindh government has decided to revise the rate of Infrastructure Cess from 0.9 percent to 1.05 percent, it is learnt.

According to sources, the Infrastructure Cess is levied under Section-9 of Sindh Finance Act 1994 as amended by Sindh Finance Act 1996 and Sindh Finance Second Amendment Ordinance 2001 and collected at 0.80 percent to 0.86 on C&F Value of a consignment on the movement of goods entering the province from outside the country through air or sea routes.

The sources told Customs Today that the Infrastructure Cess would be revised through amendments in the Finance Act and it would help collect additional Rs 2.5 billion for the maintenance and development of infrastructure in the province.

Moreover, the sources said the retired government employees would also be exempted of property tax having rental value up to Rs 48,000.
