SINGAPORE: The port of Singapore has recorded a fall in container throughput in September, according to preliminary estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Tuesday.
Container throughput moved in September was recorded at 2.43m teu, a decrease of 13.5% compared to the previous corresponding period, MPA data showed.
Last month’s volumes also dipped by 4% compared to 2.53m teu registered in August this year.
From January to September 2015, Singapore port handled a total throughput of 23.5m teu, representing a 6.5% year-on-year decrease.
Singapore is currently trailing behind Shanghai, the world’s busiest container port, which posted volumes of 27.4m teu in the first nine months.
