The “kill switch” is proving the spoilsport for the robbers. Kill switch is a software lock. When a phone is lost or stolen, Kill switch can be remotely activated. It helps users to wipe out all the personal data from their phone and bricks it, so that it can be never reused or reprogrammed.

PCWorld reported that the Law enforcement officials In New York had campaigned hard demanding to include “kill switch” in all smartphones. The officials hailed the move and admitted technology has come as a deterrent to robberies.

Apple included kill switch, called Activation Lock, to its iPhone in September 2013 followed by Samsung in April 2014 in its Galaxy S5, while Google has made it a standard feature of Android with the release of Lollipop.
