TOKYO: The PlayStation starts in 1995 and now it is twenty years old. The console had entertained many gamers with its library of rich and varied video games; from Naughty Dog’s “Crash Bandicoot” series to “Final Fantasy VII” by Square Enix then called Square Soft, the console was a massive success. The console even managed to garner a few more games after its successor, the PlayStation 2, came out.

To celebrate the PlayStation’s 20th Anniversary, the PlayStation Blog and Electronic Gaming Monthly have announced a week long sale, with discounts that go up to 75 percent. Games for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and even the PlayStation Portable a console many consider dead, though its games are playable on the Vita.

On the PlayStation 4, the games on sale are: “Call of Duty: Ghosts Digital Hardened Edition,” “Call of Duty: Ghosts Gold Edition,” “FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn,” “FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Collector’s Edition,” “Killzone Shadow Fall,” “Need for Speed Rivals” and the 2014 edition of “Rocksmith.” Prices vary, though are much cheaper for members of PlayStation Plus.

Games for the PlayStation 3 include various game franchises. From Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed” series to Rockstar’s blockbuster “Grand Theft Auto” franchise and even Naughty Dog’s “Uncharted” games, there is plenty of variety to choose from. There are also a variety of PlayStation 2 classics like “Max Payne,” “Okami,” and “Prince of Persia.” Meanwhile the Vita and PSP have plenty of great options as well. “Dragon’s Crown” was a surprise hit from Atlus and no fan will complain about replaying the classic “Final Fantasy” games again.

Sony has been hyping the PlayStation’s 20-year anniversary for a while now, even releasing a limited edition PlayStation 4 with a color design similar to the original PlayStation’s. With Sony starting off the New Year with a bang, it is quite clear that the company will continue to entertain for years to come. With Naughty Dog working on “Uncharted 4” and a slew of new releases this year, Sony is on a roll and though it lost to Microsoft last November in console sales, that doesn’t mean the company will grow weak anytime soon.
