NEW DELHI: Sony is looking to cut the prices of its Xperia range of smartphones in India by up to 14%. Sony is expected to make an official announcement on the matter very soon.

Reportedly, the price cut will cover all Xperia handsets in the Z, T, C, E and M series among others. Based on the given percentage, the price cut may vary between Rs.1, 500 and Rs.6, 500 depending on the model.

Sony’s decision to reduce prices of its handsets comes at a time when its arch rivals like Samsung and others are introducing newer handset models in the country. Sadly, Sony has nothing on that frontier right now, therefore a price cut on its existing Xperia smartphones is clearly aimed at improving sales here.

According to the report, a number of consumer electronics retail chains have confirmed that the said price cut will be implemented across all Sony handsets soon enough after an official announcement from Sony.

Interestingly, if the Xperia range does receive a price cut, the list of devices in the list will also include the two variants of Xperia Z3. Now, Sony had launched these devices only recently, during the September- October 2014 period to be precise. Going by the usual norm price cuts are typically introduced after six months to a year of launch. However, the Xperia Z3 will surely make an exception to this general rule after the reported price cut.

Moreover, the Sony Xperia Z3 is also expected to end up as the most tantalizing of deals after the cut. The Xpera Z3 was initially launched at Rs.51, 990 and is now available via various e-commerce sites for Rs.44, 990. Post the price cut, the Xperia Z3 may end up for under Rs.40, 000.
