The arrests were made after several people were caught unloading the drugs from an inflatable motorised dinghy on a beach in the western extremes of the municipality. The boat left the scene at high speed and one of occupants was later picked up by the Policia nacional in the port of La Atunara after an alert was issued by officers attending the scene to all coastal ports.
The vehicles which were being loaded with the drugs also sped from the beach at high speed, followed by the Guardia Civil. One of the vehicles was intercepted as it raced along the service road of the A-7, finally overturning at KM127. The driver ran off, but was later intercepted, and this first vehicle was found to contain 950 kilos of hashish, transported in 29 packages. The second vehicle
