MADRID: The amount of motor vehicle fuel purchased in Spain rose in comparison to last year for the fifth consecutive month in April, reaching 2.18 million tons.
This is probably due to a combination of two factors: firstly, despite having increased since January, fuel prices are still significantly lower than twelve months ago, and secondly, as the general public begins to feel the effects of the economic recovery there is less reluctance to travel on the grounds of cost. In addition, of course, an expanding economy brings about more transportation of goods and products.
Over the last twelve months, according to the data published by Cores, the consumption of diesel fuel has increased by 3.5%, while petrol consumption has declined by 1.1%.
The total consumption of these fuels in the firs/t four months of 2015 now stands at 8.37 million tons, an increase of 3.1% on the same period last year. The breakdown of this global figure shows that there have been increases in the totals for diesel (6.5%), kerosene (3.1%) and liquefied gas (2.6%), while petrol consumption has dropped by 0.3% and fuel oil consumption is 9.1% lower than in the same period in 2014.
