JAKARTA: Top police officials of Sri Lanka and Indonesia have held discussions on ways to combat transnational crimes across national borders and mechanisms to effectively exchange intelligence between state agencies.
Sri Lanka’s Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara held bilateral talks on 09 November 2016 with senior police officials of Indonesia on the sidelines of 85th International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) General Assembly, held in Bali, Indonesia.
The two sides discussed ways of improving the exchange of intelligence and information to combat transitional crimes, financial crimes and money laundering. Developing informal mechanisms to exchange such information and increasing training facilities were highlighted.
During the discussions, the Sri Lankan Police chief also underscored the importance of tackling maritime human smuggling, which affects both island nations to the Indonesian counterparts.
The 85th Interpol General Assembly held under the theme ‘Establishing a global roadmap for international police’, from November 7 -10 discussed measures to address the global police cybercrime, terrorism and organized crime.
Over 1,200 representatives of member countries of Interpol participated in the assembly to discuss coordinated efforts to combat crime and terrorism.
